Rotary Endodontics:

A faster and easier way to get a root canal!

Endodontics, more commonly known as a root canal, is a procedure where the roots or nerves of the tooth are removed. This has widely been considered the scariest and most notorious of the dental procedures, but with our new technology we are able to make it almost completely painless.

With rotary endodontics, the procedure is done utilizing a specifically made electrical handpiece that makes the process faster and allows the dentist to work with greater ease.

What is a root canal?

A root canal is one of the most common dental procedures performed, with over 14 million of them done every year. It is a simple treatment that removes decay and can save your natural tooth without resorting to needing a dental implant or bridge.

At the center of your tooth is a collection of blood vessels that works to build up the surrounding tooth called a pulp. Infections of this pulp can be caused by anything from trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips, and even repeated dental procedures. Symptoms of the infection can be visible injury or swelling of the tooth, sensitivity to temperature, or pain in the tooth and gums.

If any of these symptoms are experienced, your dentist will meet with you for a consultation, where a non-surgical treatment to eliminate the diseased pulp will most likely be suggested. When the procedure is done, the injured pulp is removed and the root canal system is thoroughly cleaned and sealed against further infection. This course of action usually involves a local anesthesia and may be completed in one or more visits, depending on the treatment required. Success for this type of case is about 90%. If the chance of success is too low, or the infected tooth is unable to receive endodontic treatment, you will be informed at the time of your consultation.

What happens after treatment?

Most people do not experience any complications from a routine root canal. However, it is not completely unheard of. If you think a complication may be developing, please call us! We are available at all times to respond. As always, please continue to practice good dental hygiene unless otherwise directed.

How much will it cost?

The cost of the procedure varies depending on factors such as the damage to the tooth, which tooth is affected, and how many visits it takes to complete the procedure. In general, having endodontic treatment is much less expensive than an entire tooth removal and replacing it with an artificial tooth.
